Put the ‘speed’ into speed dating at Weston’s Grand Pier

Bosses at Weston-super-Mare’s Grand Pier are promising to put the word ‘speed’ into speed dating with an adrenaline-fuelled special event later this month.

The landmark seaside attraction is holding it’s first ever Dodgem Speed Dating spectacular on 16 February.

Aimed at anyone aged between 18- and 25-years-old, it promises to get your love life back in the fast lane!

The event costs £5 per person. Registration is at 18:30 and the speed dating starts at 19:00. Those taking part must bring one form of ID to prove their age.

Tim Moyle, general manager of the Grand Pier, said: “They often say that the road to romance can be a bumpy one, well that applies doubly-so at our special event.

“Riders will sit together in one dodgem and get to know each other but when the horn sounds, they will say their goodbyes and switch to the next car, and so on.

“They will have score cards to make their own notes on who they feel they bonded with the most, and who drove them to distraction.

“The atmosphere will be electric, and hopefully the sparks coming from the top of the dodgem cars won’t be the only sparks in the air.

“Speed dating is one of the most popular ways of meeting new people today so we thought we’d put our own Grand Pier spin on it, and entice those looking for love to date in a safe, fun, environment.

“Once the racing is over participants are welcome to stay and mingle in the bar.

“They say if you can’t laugh together, you can’t love together, and there should be miles of smiles on 16 February. And who knows, perhaps your heart might collide with that of your dream date!”
